Feliz Navidad

So it’s Christmas and it is the best time of the year. At least for me, it is. Christmas brings so much joy to my family and I. It’s more than just gifts; it’s about being with family and celebrating this joyous time with one another. It’s an amazing thing!

For most people, Christmas is celebrated on the 25th. However, in my household, it is celebrated whenever I can have the time off. Being a flight attendant of 5 years means, you can’t always get the holidays off. I am learning to accept that. It sucks, but what can I do. This also means that the tradition of visiting family will not happen because I can’t ask everyone to put their holiday plans on hold. That also sucks, but I get it. This year Christmas will be celebrated on Christmas Eve. 

For me, Christmas has always been a morning thing. We would wake up early to see the presents Santa left us and my parents would cook an amazing Christmas breakfast. I always loved that and it was one thing that stuck with me. So for my son, I want the same. This year would be different though. He always wakes us up, so that part is not different. This year he woke us up and then saw the Santa by the tree. He got so excited and started shouting “Ho, ho, ho” and “this, this, this!” He did not even notice the pile of presents for him until I pointed out the Santa on the gift wrapping paper. He still didn’t seem excited (mind you, he’s only 21 months). When we finally made one of the toys sound play, while wrapped, he finally got excited. He ripped open every gift with so much joy and excitement. 

Out of all his gifts, the one he loved was his puzzle and his vacuum cleaner. My son loves to clean and it's not just simply wiping things down, he loves to really clean. The vacuum was not something that we could use to soothe him and put him to sleep. He gets so excited about it and wants to help vacuum. So we decided to get him a toy vacuum and it was the greatest decision. Now he walks around vacuuming after himself. The puzzle he loves is animals so that was a given with him.

Listen, Christmas might be about presents when you are little and that is completely understandable. As I got older, it is about the love you give to others and the support and friendship. Christmas is about being with your loved ones and just sharing the joy and love you have for one another.

P.S. It is also about Harry Potter marathons!!!!
